What Does Caring And Giving Mean To Us?

Thirty-five years ago, a group of community members came together with a vision for the Chautauqua region. These men and women volunteered their time and talents to establish the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation and focus on growing unrestricted endowment assets, now called the “Fund for the Region,” to address emerging community issues.

The commitment that community leaders such as Carl Cappa, Francis Grow, John Hamilton, Miles Lasser, Elizabeth Lenna and Ken Strickler made in 1978 to grow the Fund for the Region inspired us to create the Caring and Giving Campaign. This campaign was created to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the foundation and pay tribute to the beliefs of our founders.

Caring and Giving at the Community Foundation can mean many things. It can mean someone cares about another, and gives a donation in their memory or honor. Or that someone cares for the community and gives their time by serving as a board member or volunteer on one of our many grants or scholarship committees.

However, to our board of directors and staff, it means we care about the Chautauqua region and give back through our extensive fund base to support arts and leisure, economic development, human service, religious, youth, and educational projects and initiatives. To date, more than $6 million has been awarded from the Fund for the Region in all of those areas.

On Wednesday, June 19, see what else the Chautauqua region cares about by joining us at the Jamestown Gateway Train Station for our annual meeting. The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour and refreshments as guests have the opportunity to mingle with some of the local organizations that have received funding from the foundation. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Following dinner, a brief meeting will take place where new members will be elected and business will be discussed. To end the evening, the foundation will present Family Feud, an interactive game featuring local celebrities.

The event is open to the public and guests are encouraged to R.S.V.P. before Friday by calling our office at 661-3390. A $10 donation will be accepted for dinner.

The annual meeting is one of many events planned for the summer to celebrate 35 years of Caring and Giving. Like us on Facebook to stay up to date on all of the latest Caring and Giving events.
