Anthony P. “Tony” LaPlaca

Anthony P. “Tony” LaPlaca, 74, formerly of Lakewood, N.Y., passed away at 10:43 a.m. Sunday (June 9, 2013) in the Heritage Vil-lage Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, following an extended illness.

A lifelong area resident he was born Oct. 6, 1938, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late James and Laura Messina LaPlaca.

Tony was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from Aug. 1, 1957, to April 11, 1960.

Before his retirement due to ill health he was employed by The Post-Journal for more than 20 years.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, N.Y. In earlier years he was an avid bowler and was an accom-plished baseball and soft-ball player. He was also a former member of the Lower Lake Area Men’s As-sociation in Ashville, N.Y.

Surviving are his wife, the former Marilyn Cusimano, whom he married July 22, 1961; two sons: Steven LaPlaca of Adams, N.Y., and James (Lisa) LaPlaca of Belmont, Calif.; five grandchildren: Lindsay LaPlaca of Ro-chester, N.Y., Robert LaPlaca and McKena LaPlaca both of Adams, N.Y., Andrew LaPlaca of Watertown, N.Y., and Zelia LaPlaca of Belmont, Calif.; and a great-grandson, Mason LaPlaca of Watertown, N.Y.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. The daily mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood will be said in Tony’s honor on Thursday June 20, 2013, at 9:30 a.m.

Memorials may be made in support of his granddaughter, McKena, to the Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, 925 Busse Road, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007.
