Woman Charged With Violating Leandra’s Law

KIANTONE – A Frewsburg woman has been charged with violating Leandra’s Law after police found her driving while impaired.

Police charged Sherry L. Szczesny, 50, with aggravated DWI with a child, driving while ability impaired by drugs and moving from lane unsafely. According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, an off-duty officer called in a complaint after witnessing a driver operating erratically on Route 62 in the town of Kiantone.

At one point, the vehicle almost went into the ditch, sheriff’s deputies said in a police report. After an investigation, police learned Szczesny was allegedly operating the vehicle while impaired by prescription drugs.

A 15-year-old passenger also was in the vehicle at the time, police said. As a result, Szczesny was charged under Leandra’s Law, a felony.

The Frewsburg woman was taken to WCA Hospital for a blood test and later released. She is scheduled to appear in town of Kiantone Court at a later date.
