Speakers Headline Mission Meadows Open House

Camp Mission Meadows will be hosting a special open house starting at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 16. Located on Chautauqua Lake, the camp and retreat center will feature several of its alumni, including renowned author and family counselor Dr. Kevin Leman and comedian Bob Stromberg of the famed Triple Espresso comedy group.

Leman is a New York Times Bestselling author of more than 40 books. As an internationally known psychologist, humorist and author, he has entertained audiences worldwide with wit and common-sense psychology.

“My idea of a good event is when people laugh, have a wonderful time, and I see the light of a ‘eureka’ in their eyes because of something I’ve said,” Leman said. “Then they walk away, determined to make a change in their own lives and a difference in the lives of their families. That’s what drives me to keep doing what I’m doing-to make an impact in homes and families across the world. That’s why (families) are so important to me.

A native of Port Allegany, Pa., Stromberg has been entertaining audiences for more than 30 years. As one of the original authors and cast members of “Triple Espresso … a highly caffeinated comedy,” Bob and his partners saw the show become a long-standing success, setting a variety of records in theaters from Minneapolis, to Los Angeles, to Rochester, to London and Munich.

Music that morning will be brought by Pastor Jim Black of Boyton Beach, Fla. Originally from Jamestown, Black toured with a band for three years before becoming a pastor. Recently he has returned to songwriting, and as G.A. Johnson of the web-based The Partial Observer acclaimed, “Jim plays guitar with an intimate feel that communicates his message of hope and encouragement.”

Mission Meadows’ executive director, Bryan Muecke, encourages people to bring their own lawn chairs as the morning events will be outside if weather permits.

“We are expecting a record crowd. All of the presenters are Mission Meadows alumni. We are very excited to have them back with us.”

The festivities will move inside if the weather does not cooperate and seating will be on a first come, first served basis, starting at 8 a.m. Again, weather permitting, the camp beach and other activities will be available from noon to 3 p.m.

Food will be provided all day by the MexiCali Burrito Co. and other local vendors for a fee.

There is no charge for admission to the open house, however donations will be accepted throughout the day.
