Two Teams Tied For I-A Lead

ELLICOTTVILLE – The steady rains that postponed the first day of the 43rd annual Italian-American Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday gave way to far better playing conditions Friday as the event finally kicked off at Holiday Valley.

After day one came to a conclusion, the duo of Sam Mason and Craig Glatz were tied for the overall lead with Tom D’Angelo and Steve Johnson as both pairs fired net best-ball 8-under-par 64s to lead the rain-shortened tournament, which has been reduced from 54 to 36 holes.

One shot back with 65s were the teams of John Sirianno and Chris Elliott, Ang Volpe and Jim Brown, Ray Paladino and Lyn Sweet and Brett Cappa and Derek Dawson.

Five groups carded 66s, including Peter Scheira and Mike Richner, Anthony DeMarco and Scott Kubic, Mike Cappa and Dick Cole, Dave Foti and Nick Madden and Tony Triscari and Randy Nelson.

All of those teams are in the First Flight.

Remarkably, 14 teams fired 67s, which filled all of the last spot in the First Flight, all of the Second Flight and the first two slots in the Third Flight.

The tournament will conclude today and the overall winner and runner-up can come out of any of the Six Flights.
