Former Teacher Sentenced After Rape Conviction
OLEAN – A former teacher with the Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School District has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and 10 years probation after engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor.
According to Lori Pettit Rieman, Cattaraugus County district attorney, Timothy Retchless, 40, will serve his sentence at the County Jail and faces state and sex offender fees.
Retchless was sentenced Monday in front of the Hon. Ronald D. Ploetz, Cattaraugus County Court judge. He pleaded guilty on March 6 to third-degree rape and second-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, both class E felonies.
According to Rieman, Retchless engaged in a sexual relationship with a minor under 17 years old between November 2009 and December 2010 in the city of Olean.
Retchless, who was indicted in December by a grand jury on 17 charges, also allegedly transmitted indecent material to the minor.
The former teacher resigned in March 2011.
