2013 Celoron Rib-Fest Features New Items

CELORON – Great-tasting ribs are always available at the Celoron Rib-Fest, but this year’s event will also include some new features.

On Wednesday, Lucille Ball Memorial Park will be packed with thousands of rib lovers once again as they return to the lakeside community for the annual festival. This year’s rib vendors will include Smokin’ Joe’s Hog Wild Barbeque, Sgt. Oink’s BBQ, My Happy Place and Wells Hog Wild BBQ Co. of Warren, Pa. This year there also will be a new rib vendor on the docket with the addition of Pigfoot BBQ.

To go along with the new rib vendor, there will also be a new dance floor available for those wanting to cut a rug while enjoying their favorite barbecue cuisine.

“It is a 30-by-30-foot dance floor. So now we have a dance floor that is level,” said Scott Schrecengost, Celoron Rib-Fest Committee chairman.

The live music at the Desi Arnaz Bandshell will be provided by Skip Lanphere. Live music will be played all four days. Bands will play music from classic rock to country to the rock ‘n’ roll music of the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s. Bands include Blue Magoo playing 6-9 p.m. Wednesday; Smoking 45 playing 6-9 p.m. Thursday; Lake Effect playing 5-7:45 p.m. and Smokehouse playing 8-11 p.m. Friday; Happy Days 1-4 p.m., Untouchables 4:30-7:30 p.m. and M-80s 8-11 p.m. Saturday.

Schrecengost said there will also be a new bounce house provided by Outta Sight Bounce House Rental of Jamestown. The rib-fest has been held in Celoron since 2008.

“The thing I like about it is all the proceeds are donated back to the community,” Schrecengost, who is also the village’s mayor, said. “This is a big fundraiser for everybody. There are nine to 10 different organizations that receive donations from the rib-fest.”

There will also be vendor booths that will sell chicken fingers, pizza, fries, blooming onions, funnel cakes, candy apples, cotton candy, chocolate-covered strawberries and new this year apple dumplings with ice cream. As for refreshments, soda pop, lemonade and ice water are available. The rib-fest also includes a beer and wine tent, where people can enjoy their meal by the lake while drinking an adult beverage.

Harley Davidson of Jamestown will sponsor bike night Friday, with special parking along the boulevard at Lucille Ball Memorial Park all day. Harley Davidson will be giving away merchandise during bike night, Schrecengost said.

The Celoron Rib-fest has not forgotten the children. There will be a larger-than-ever “Kids Zone.” Children of any age can get their face painted, ride the train and experience the bounce houses and slide.

The Celoron Rib-fest will be held from 3-10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
