CLRC High School Team Enjoys Success At State Championships
SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Chautauqua Lake Rowing Club high school team fared very well recently while attending the New York State Scholastic Championships against many larger schools and clubs.
There were 573 boats and 73 different public, private and class taking part on the Hudson River.
The locals came through with gold, silver and bronze medals.
The Chautauqua Lake Rowing Team is made up of rowers from Jamestown High School and Panama and Southwestern Central Schools.
In the Boys Novice 4 Plus Cowswain race, Lane Tomassini, Karsen Terry, Konner Bryant, Alex Beckerink and Parker Roberts made up the CLRC squad that won the gold medal as the fastest club team.
They finished seconds 1.5 seconds off the winning pace.
In the time trials they also placed second nine seconds back in a 24-boat field with only six boats moving on to the finals.
Mary Himes, Libby Wright, Mary Agarwala, Emily Wuebbolt and Haley Jones led the Girls Senior 4 Plus Cowswain finished third in the finals, 2.3 seconds behind Buffalo’s West Side Rowing Club. They were awarded a silver medal.
During the semifinals, the team finished second, 20 seconds behind the leader.
Alex Carlson, Andru Caldwell, Fernando GilSaez, Carl Shoup and Elliott Clark comprised the Boys Senior 4 Plus Coxswain that was third-fastest club team to make the semifinals and earned a bronze medal.
Emily Dahlgren, Haley Nieves, Elizabeth Brunecz, Amy Turner and Mallery Rockwell came in fifth in the semifinals of the Girls Senior 4 Plus Cowswain Race and didn’t advance to the finals.
Kira Gottlieb, Sarah Miller, Rachel Moller, Ashley Marsh, Caitlin Wuebbolt, Elizabeth Mazzone, Rachel Birt, Kelly Stevens and Nicole Johnson were sixth in the semifinals of the Girls Senior 8 Plus Cowswain race and didn’t reach the finals.
Jim Odrzwolski was the boys coach and Nicki Saxman the girls coach for Chautauqua Lake. Colleen Wright, Al and Jan Odrzwolski helped out.
