Audio Care Opens In West Gate Plaza
A board certified hearing instrument specialist and an audiologist with more than 40 years combined experience in assisting the hearing impaired have opened a new business in Jamestown.
Audio Care Hearing Services is located at 560 W. Third St., in the West Gate Plaza, and is operated by Thomas G. Caruso and Dr. Leslie A. Hultberg. Caruso has been in the hearing-assistance field for more than 30 years, following in his father’s footsteps into the career. In fact, Hultberg is Caruso’s niece, so the family has three generations of helping improve people’s hearing. The two were working for another company before deciding to open their own private practice. The new Jamestown office opened Feb. 1. The colleagues also have a clinic in Olean and the Buffalo region.
”So far we’ve had a good response to the new facility,” Caruso said about the Jamestown office. ”The patients like the easy access to the parking lot, where you never have a problem parking, and it is handicapped accessible.”
Caruso said the clinic offers hearing assistance to fit the needs of all people and their budgets. He said the practice is accepting new patients.
”We offer services and repairs for all makes and models,” he said. ”We also offer senior discounts. We do reach out work at nursing homes and provide home-bound hearing services for those who cannot come see us.”
Caruso and Hultberg are licensed in both New York and Pennsylvania. Caruso is board certified by the National Board For Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences and a member of the International Hearing Society. Hultberg received her undergraduate and master’s degree from the State University at Fredonia and doctorate from Salus University.
Caruso said he travels around the country helping improve people’s hearing and continuing his education. He also visits hearing aid companies to learning more about their software and how it works to pass on to his patients.
”The technology is always changing, like with computers,” he said.
Caruso said Audio Care offers patients all of the latest state-of-the-art instruments to improve hearing, especially for those who suffer from tinnitus. Tinnitus is the medical term for hearing noises in your ears when there is no outside source of sound.
”We have all the newest technology in tinnitus therapy,” he said. ”We can help control tinnitus for people who are bothered by it.”
Caruso said it is very satisfying being able to help improve people’s hearing.
”I can give people a better quality of life,” he said. ”I can let them communicate again with their families and be social again. Some people pull away because they can’t communicate.”
Hultberg said the joy she brings people is what she enjoys most about her career.
”I think the best part of my job is the smile on their face when they can hear again and realize how much they have been missing,” she said.
