Rodeo Queens Will Compete At Bulls And Barrels In Gerry

GERRY – A special highlight has been added to the Gerry Rodeo Committee’s Bulls and Barrels event on Friday and Saturday as both of New York State’s reigning rodeo queens for 2013 have announced that they will be competing in the cowgirls barrel racing event.

Both ladies are accomplished riders and have competed in barrel racing from an early age.

Lexi Buckheit, Miss Rodeo New York, is 19 and has been riding since age seven, purchasing her first horse at 11. She graduated at the top of her high school class in 2011 and is presently on scholarship at Alfred University, majoring in Art and Design with minors in education and equine science, where she is a member of the varsity intercollegiate riding team. She will be competing at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December for the Miss Rodeo America title.

The Miss Teen Rodeo New York is 17-year-old AshLee Lattner, a junior at Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School in Montrose who is taking advanced courses at Penn State-Scranton. She began riding at age eight and presently owns three barrel racing horses. She is a member of her high school powerlifting team and plays basketball, soccer and tennis. Her church is an important aspect of her life, and she has organized a public service team for teenagers in her community.

Both girls will be available for autographs and pictures with their young fans.

Bull and Barrels is a first-time event in Gerry and will feature two hours of bull riding and barrel racing, with approximately 30 bulls being sent out of the chutes each night. In addition, one of America’s top animal acts will be highlighted as Bert Davis, the Coppertown Clown and his ten trained dogs, the Muttley Crew, that he has rescued from animal shelters across the country will perform.

The shows began both nights at 7:30 p.m. with the midway opening at 5 p.m. with displays and concessions including the beef barbecue sandwiches.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for ages 4-12. Children 3 and under are admitted free.
