Edna Helen Klein Campbell

Edna Helen Klein Campbell, beloved and devoted wife of Donald A. Campbell, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at their home in Gowanda.

Loving mother of Susan C. Torrance, Sandra C. Brzezinski and Karen C. Meyer and sons-in-law John A. Torrance and Paul A. Meyer, she is also survived by her eight loving grandchildren and their spouses (grandchildren by heart), as well as 15 wonderful great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, friends and devoted caregivers.

Edna, her friends and family, were all looking forward to celebrating her 100th birthday in September.

Born in Rochester to Charles P. and Ethel Taunton Klein, Edna was predeceased by her sister, Ruth Klein Toothman and broth-er John Arthur Klein.

Young Edna and her siblings later moved to Salamanca, N.Y., after the death of their parents. She was a 1931 graduate of Salaman-ca High School. Married on May 26, 1935, Edna and Don settled in Gowanda, which has been their home for the past 77 years. During that time Edna worked side by side with her husband building a successful grocery business there. She was also an active leader in the Western New York Chapter of the Girl Scouts, a faithful member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and an active director of the Altar Guild, the Women’s Auxiliary and served as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ramona Chapter 344.

Edna made it her life’s mission to make the world a better place, one person at a time, and lived by the motto: “I may never pass this way again, so therefore, let me do all the good I can do today.” In her 99 ? years she did that each day for family, friends and even strangers. Surely there is a new light in the heavens, for there is one less loving light here on earth. She will be forever in our hearts.
