City Man In Custody After Leaving Keys At Crime Scene

A city man who left his keys behind at a crime scene Thursday has been charged in a pair of burglaries.

Skye P. Ryder, 27, of Spring Street, was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of petit larceny and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Investigators from the Jamestown Police Department who were looking into an early Thursday morning burglary at 34 W. Harrison St. located the keys and a fingerprint that linked Ryder to the crime. Later that morning, Ryder was found on Spring Street, unable to enter his apartment because he lost his keys.

“He left his keys behind at the scene and then we find him sleeping at his doorstep outside of his apartment (very close to) the police station,” said JPD Captain Robert Samuelson.

The JPD obtained a search warrant for the apartment and found property linking Ryder to a Tuesday burglary on Forest Avenue.

Further investigation led to the additional counts.

Ryder is currently being held in Jamestown City Jail awaiting arraignment.
