UPK Registration In Bemus Point
BEMUS POINT – Bemus Point Elementary is accepting registrations for its Universal Pre-Kindergarten and kindergarten programs for the 2013-14 school year. Parents who plan to enroll their child in kindergarten are encouraged to call the school as soon as possible to register and to sign up for kindergarten screening. Historical Society To Host Speaker
BEMUS POINT – The Bemus Point Historical Society Guest Speaker Series continues on Friday with Vince Martonis, Hanover town historian. Martonis will share his knowledge regarding antique bottle collecting and invites guests to bring a favorite, precious bottle to have it evaluated. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the historical society museum on Alburtus Avenue in Bemus Point.

CELORON – The April meeting of the Chautauqua County American Legion was held recently at the Herman Kent Post 777 in Celoron. Eighth District Commander Al O’Donnell attended the meeting. He spoke about membership on the county, district and state level. Various committee reports were given. A $100 donation from the J. Carter Knapp Post 953 in Forestville was given to the Flag Education Program. A report on homeless veterans was given. California, Florida, Texas and New York lead the nation with the greatest number of homeless veterans. There was a report on efforts by the VA to reduce the backlog of veterans claims being underway. Membership citations were presented to a number of posts. Andrew Field from Troop 267, Fredonia, was announced as the Boy Scout of the Year for Chautauqua County. The next meeting of the County Legion will be on Friday at the Henry Mosher Post 638 Falconer.
Babysitting Clinic Begins Saturday
The Jamestown YMCA will hold its next babysitting clinic for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jamestown YMCA. The clinic will instruct participants about the responsibilities involved in caring for younger children including child development, safety and emergency response. The clinic is taught by experienced instructors who have knowledge in child development, health and overall care of children. Participants should bring a brown bag lunch. Space is limited. Registration cannot be taken over the phone but can be made in person at the YMCA Welcome Center before Thursday. For more information, visit www.jamestownymca.org.
JPS Board To Meet Wednesday
The Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the board room, 197 Martin Road, to canvass the results of Tuesday’s school budget vote and school board election. The public is welcome to attend.
Carroll Veterans To Hold Service
FREWSBURG – The Carroll Veteran’s Memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday with an honor and remembrance ceremony at the Frewsburg Veteran’s Park on Parkway Drive. Organizers ask all who have a loved one serving or who want to remember a loved one’s service to the country to bring a red or white geranium along to plant in the park.
