SWCS Names Students Of Month

Southwestern High School has announced its students of the month for March and April. They include:

Madi Gerace, the daughter of Vincent and Marilyn Gerace of Jamestown. She is a member of National Honor Society, the Student Council president, and captain of the track and field team. She loves to draw, and lists art and Mrs. Brown as her favorite class and teacher. She says Mrs. Brown is a great role model and an inspiring person. She is planning on attending JCC for a year before moving her studies to Florida and pursuing a degree in psychiatry.

Blake Peterson, the son of Jeffery and Tammy Peterson of Jamestown. Blake is a Section 6 Scholar Athlete, Jim Sorg Scholar Athlete, and was recently The Post-Journal’s “Standing Out In The Crowd” featured student. Blake has also won numerous awards for his photography, including “Best Portrait” at the Storrs All-High Student Photography Show in Lockport. Blake is a member of the varsity track team, band and pit orchestra, and Executive Board member of the National Honor Society. He list physics and math among his favorite classes, and says that Mr. Sleggs always makes things exciting, both in the classroom and on the soccer field. Blake is headed to JCC to study math and science.

Tyler Simon, the son of Mike Simon of Mayville and Trina Davenport of Lakewood. Tyler enjoys social studies and science, and especially Mr. Muirhead, because he is easy to understand and really listens. Tyler is looking forward to playing football in the fall.

Austin Storms, the son of Brian and Wendy Storms of West Ellicott. He is a member of the National Honor Society and was JV soccer team captain. He participates in varsity soccer and track, and plays trombone in the high school band. He lists math and physics among his favorite classes. Although he has not yet chosen a school, he has plans to study engineering in college.

Summer Borysoff, the daughter of Mike and Tina Borysoff of West Ellicott. Summer plays travel team softball, and has won a Coach’s Award and the Naomi Berg Award for softball, as well as presidential and sportsmanship awards and the Amy King award. She says Mr. Devine is her favorite teacher because of his willingness to help. She plans on attending Penn State Behrend in the nursing program.

Ben Burk, the son of Bill and Cheryl Burk of Lakewood. Ben lists among his favorite subjects social studies and science. Hey says that Mr. Houser always makes his class interesting. Ben participates in baseball, football, basketball, band and choir.

Lynsey Gutzmer, the daughter of Paul and Laura Gutzmer of Lakewood. She loves skiing, cooking and art. Lynsey was an honor roll student all through middle school, and has kept that intact so far through high school. Her favorite subject is biology and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Cybart.

Alex DePonceau, the daughter of Chris and Stephanie DePonceau of Lakewood. She loves science and art, and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Alex participates in varsity soccer and was in the high school musical. She studies dance at the Tiffany Wakefield Academy of Dance. She has hopes of being a marine biologist.
