Barmore To Run For County Clerk
Chautauqua County Legislator Larry Barmore announced today he will be running for the office of Chautauqua County clerk.
“I will be seeking the office of Chautauqua County clerk, succeeding Sandy Sopak who has held this position for the past 20 years and has done a superior job,” said Barmore. “I join all the citizens of Chautauqua County in wishing Sandy a joyful retirement and in thanking her for the great service she has performed for the people of this county.”
Barmore has spent the last 44 years in private sector business and 40 of those years as owner of his own business.
“I have vast experience in managing a staff, working within a budget and delivering service to the public,” said Barmore. “I feel my expertise in this field will allow me to make a seamless transition into the county clerk’s office and continue the tradition of service that the people of Chautauqua County have come to expect from the county clerk.”
Barmore is now in his third term as a Chautauqua County legislator and has served on the Administrative Services Committee, Public Facilities Committee, Airport Task Force and the Legislative Redistricting Committee. He has also served as legislative majority leader each of the last three years.
He is a member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church serving on the Praise and Worship team. He also served as finance committee chairman, assistant treasurer and as a Sunday school teacher. He is a member of the Valley Historical Society, Fenton Historical Society and Barker Historical Society and he enjoys researching local histories and genealogies.
He resides in Gerry with his wife, Carol. They have three grown children and seven grandchildren.
“I look forward to a vigorous campaign,” said Barmore. “I ask for your support and look forward to meeting many of the voters from every corner of this great county. As county clerk, I will continue to work hard for the people of Chautauqua County as I have during my time in the Legislature.”
