Maple Grove Rolls Past Pine Valley

SOUTH DAYTON – Maple Grove rolled out to a huge lead and never looked back as the Red Dragons improved to 9-1 in league and 10-7 overall with a 15-6 victory over host Pine Valley in Division 3 baseball action.

Maple Grove put three runs on the board in the first and added six more in the second, along with another trio of runs in the fifth, to put the game away as starter Aaron Germain pitched 3 innings of no-hit baseball to get the win and Colin Stack pitched 3 innings in relief.

Will Lucas also smacked two doubles and a triple with four RBIs, Stack produced two hits with a double and two RBIs, Jake Swan contributed two hits and three RBIs and Josh Ahlstrom added two hits.

For Pine Valley, Josh Kilburn had a double and Winfred Nelson tripled.


MAYVILLE -Forestville’s Jeff VanVlack won the pitching duel over Chautauqua Lake’s Kyle Mayer as the Hornets pulled out a 1-0 win.

VanVlack struck out seven, walked two and allowed only five hits and reliever Jake Nosbisch pitched his way out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh to earn the save.

Mayer went the distance for the Thunderbirds (1-10, 1-11), striking out 13, walking two while giving up five hits.

The Hornets scored the only run they would need in the third inning, when John Murphy led off with a walk, stole second and was driven home by Buck Smith.

Jake Nosbisch led the Hornets with two hits, including a double.

Ian Clute paced Chautauqua Lake with three hits and three stolen bases.
