Olive “Orla” Buck, 80, of 44 Seneca St., Salamanca, died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday (May 11, 2013) at the home of her sister in Jamestown.
She was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Ohsweken, Ontario, the daughter of Jake and Nellie Mittenjohn Jacobs.
A member of the Cayuga Nation of Indians, she was the Faithkeeper and Clan Mother of the Deer Clan. She was also a member of A.O.A. in Salamanca.
Orla had been employed by the Seneca Nation as a language mentor, and at its casino as a hostess and in the housekeeping department. In earlier years she had worked at Firchs Bakery in Jamestown.
She enjoyed bingo, smoke dancing, puzzles, sewing, bird feeding and travel.
Surviving are her children: Georgena Ann Buck Glover (Allan), Valerie Buck, and Joshua Buck (Jody) all of Jamestown, Regina Clarice Buck Redeye (James Redeye Jr.) of Salamanca, and John Joseph Buck (Martha) of Ohio; two sisters: Mable Snow and Clausie Szarowicz (Peter), both of Jamestown; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joshua Buck Jr., who died Feb. 2, 1983; her stepfather, Windsor Snow; two sisters: Rita Snow and Emma Stone; and two brothers: Leslie Williams and Neal Snow.
Orla will be resting at the Cold Spring Longhouse where friends may call until the time of the service at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Hillside Haven Cemetery.
