Celebration To Be Held For Nurse
A celebration in honor of the nursing career of Madeline A. Baker will be held on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. at Meeder’s Restaurant in Ripley.
Baker began her nursing education at Jamestown School of Practical Nursing just after graduation from Mayville High School. She graduated with her LPN in 1967 and was immediately hired to work at Westfield Memorial Hospital. At that time, Westfield was a full-service hospital with more than 30 beds and a maternity unit. Baker worked in all departments including 15 years in maternity, assisting in the delivery of many babies. Except for two short parenting leaves she has worked continuously since her graduation in 1967.
Most recently, Baker worked at The Ripley Health Care Center, later Grant W. Stephenson, M.D. Family Practice.
When asked what she will miss the most by not working in an office or hospital, Madeline said, “I will miss my patients.” She will, however, remain active, working in home health care in the area.
