Jamestown DAR Gives Good Citizen Awards
The Jamestown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a special recognition ceremony at their chapter house on 70 Prospect St. to present Good Citizens Awards to students in neighboring school districts.
The program was opened with a welcome by Sharon Terwilliger, chapter regent, who welcomed all to the chapter house and then introduced the awards committee. Donna Vanstrom and Jane Roos served on the committee to present the awards. Vanstrom gave a brief description of a scholarship recipient.
These included quality of dependability, services, leadership and patriotism. As Vanstrom introduced each recipient, Roos presented the award certificate.
Earning awards were Luciana Sena from Chautauqua Lake Central School; Carolyn Becker from Falconer School District; Katy Calarco from Jamestown High School; William Lucas from Bemus Point School District; and Allen Gage from Pine Valley School District.
Students also wrote an essay on “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility to Preserve It.” Recipients for the essay were Brittany Bellinger from Cassadaga Valley Central School District; Allison Beach from Randolph School District; Sierra Tessmo from Ripley School District; and Veronica Schuver from Southwestern School District. Schuver’s essay was read by Vanstrom at the ceremony.
Following the recognition program, there were tours of the chapter house, and then refreshments were served.
Any woman, who is 18 years or older, and can prove heritage to a patriot of the American Revolution, is welcome to join the DAR and may receive information by calling 664-4144.
