Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Holds Meeting

The Cassadaga Legion Unit 1280 Auxiliary met April 9.

Sue Penhollow, president, presided at the meeting which opened with prayer led by Paul Pattison, chaplain, a flag salute and reciting of the auxiliary preamble. A moment of silence was held for deceased service men and women. Reports by Carol Baker, secretary, and Karen Field, treasurer, were accepted as read.

Committee reports were given. Pattison stated get-well cards were sent and funeral lunches held. Charyle Tyler, junior chairwoman, spoke on the July 26-28 junior camp and Sally Lawson on membership and unpaid dues.

Discussion was on the joint meeting with the Legion and Sons; “Scouting for Food” benefiting the Cassadaga Food Pantry; and the Oct. 26 vendor showcase.

New officers are Gayle Cieplinski, president; Sally Lawson, first vice president; Carol Baker, secretary; Karen Field, treasurer; Paul Pattison, chaplain; and Shirley Coon, sergeant-at-arms.

Unit members voted to donate funds to the Scouting Camporee and Walk for MS.

The auxiliary met March 12 with Penhollow presiding. Chaplain Pattison led the prayer. A flag salute was given and the auxiliary preamble read. A moment of silence for deceased service men and women was held. Minutes were given by Cieplinski and the treasurer’s report by Field.

Committee reports were given on the children’s Easter party egg hunt, membership and outstanding dues. Tyler spoke on her project of the American flag afghan she made and proceeds from the drawing benefiting the Warriors Family Assistance program. She also spoke on the lunch for Tim Van Patton, department commander, Sally Johnson, department president and John J. Knapp Sr., department commander.

Discussion was on the joint meeting with the Legion and Sons.

Sue Lehnen and Sally Lawson are the nominating committee.

Donations will be made to the Cassadaga after-prom party.
