Jamestown Water Voted Best Tasting In County

MAYVILLE – Christine Schuyler, Chautauqua County health and human services director, announced the city of Jamestown won the annual water tasting contest recently at Chautauqua Mall.

The village of Fredonia placed second and also took the top spot in the surface water category. Jamestown draws its water from a number of ground water sources.

More than 100 people judged the annual event.

“As always, the judging was very close, and it was tough for judges to decide which water was the best because they are all very good,” said Bill Boria, water resource specialist. “This really supports the fact that we have some of the highest quality and best tasting drinking water in New York state. Our local water operators work very hard to deliver the highest quality water possible to their customers but it’s not just up to water supply managers and utility staffs to safe guard our water resources, it takes everyone’s help. We all have a responsibility to protect our water by being careful with what we do around our homes and businesses so we do not pollute our streams, lakes and groundwater – the source of all of our drinking water.”

Jamestown will now go on to represent Chautauqua County in the regional competition to be held in Rochester in July.
