Gospel Concert To Be Held At Christ First UMC

The 17th annual gospel concert is scheduled for Saturday at Christ First United Methodist Church on Lakeview Avenue.

Heading the event will be the Jamestown Harmony Express Chorus and quartets. Ralph Rasmusson, clarinetist, will be featured with the chorus. Rasmusson and his newly formed gospel jazz band, Razzers Jazzers, will also perform.

The chorus will be headed for the nation’s capital May 30, having been invited by Vincent C. Gray, mayor of the District of Columbia. The Jamestown Harmony Express will sing two concerts in Washington as one of the representatives from New York state in the National Festival of States Celebration. A third concert is scheduled in Gettysburg, Pa., as an official part of the Gettysburg 150th Civil War Commemoration.

Jamestown Harmony Express represents Jamestown in performance tours, and those tours are part of the local barbershopping programming. The chorus has performed in the Lawrence Welk Theater in Branson, Mo., and in London in the New Year’s Day Parade and for the Lord Mayors of London.

Tickets for the Gospel Concert are available from all chorus members, Brigiotta’s Farmland, King’s Heating and Sheet Metal or from the Jamestown Harmony Express Hotline at 789-5248. Pre-sale tickets are $10, and tickets are $12 at the door.
