Falconer School Board Speak To Ross Grange

FALCONER – Falconer School Board members Cathy Kimball, vice president; Jennifer Volke, Tom Frederes and Steve Penhollow, district superintendent, spoke at the recent meeting of Ross Grange.

Some of the subjects discussed were teacher evaluations, educational standards for students, contract negotiations and paying bills from the savings fund balance.

Correspondence included letters of thanks from Fluvanna Library staff members for a recent contribution, Shirley Vandenburg, a former Community Citizen awardee for being included in awards night, and from 4-H members and Emily Kidd, 4-H issues leader, for helping with the fundraising dinner by furnishing desserts.

Members voted to have Memorial Day Float in parades in Gerry, Falconer and Kennedy.

The Baking Powder Biscuit contest was held with winners: first, Elaine Melquist; second, Opal Sprague; and third, Betty Wakefield. Judges were Jennifer Volke, Tom Frederes and Steve Penhollow.

The next meeting will be May 13 when 4-H members with meat animals will read winning essays about their project. 4-H youth and their families are invited to share a meal with grange members. Each winner will receive a check to help with expenses of raising their animal.
