Wood Leads Portville Past Cardinals

PORTVILLE -Zach Wood pitched and batted front-running Portville (7-1, 7-3) to a Division 2 baseball victory on Thursday.

Wood hit two doubles and scored three runs while hurling the first five innings with six strikeouts and four walks while permitting seven hits as the Panthers topped Randolph, 15-4.

Justus Elliott managed a double and a single, driving in two runs and tallying two. Joe Shoff added two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored in the win.

Alex Carr relieved Wood for the final two innings and yielded a pair of hits.

Alex Miinte, Nate Beaver and Nate Ploetz divided six hits with Miinte doubling for the Cardinals.


SILVER CREEK – Sam Agnew had an impressive strikeout total for Cattaraugus-Little Valley (4-3, 6-3).

Agnew counted 13 strikeouts, walked two and allowed five hits in going 6 innings when C-LV prevailed over Silver Creek, 9-5.

Justin Forster got the save by striking out a batter in of an inning.

Ryan Hanft and Forster each pounded out three hits with Hanft having a double for the winners, who scored in six of the seven innings. Hanft drove in a pair of runs.

Steven Marcey had three hits and Zach Klisiwicz two for Silver Creek, scoring in four innings.
