Ellis Pitches Maple Grove To Win

PANAMA – MacKenzie Ellis of Maple Grove had the upper hand over Carly Abbate of Panama (0-6, 2-6) in Division 3 softball on Thursday.

Ellis gave up six hits, striking out seven and walking none while Abbate gave up 11 hits, fanning four and also walking none as Maple Grove came up with a 7-5 verdict.

Lauren Nickerson belted out a triple and a double, Alex Novotny and Taylor Whalen added two hits with Novotny doubling for Maple Grove, who put up four runs in the first inning and were never headed.

Kirsten Green unloaded a first pitch two-run home run over the left-field fence and also singled for Panama. Natelle Torres had two hits, one a double, and Abbate tripled.

Panama had runners in scoring position the last four innings. but was unable to break through against Ellis.

BENTHAM, RINEHART STAR

SOUTH DAYTON – Alex Bentham and Nicole Rinehart split six hits as Pine Valley (3-4, 4-4) downed Westfield, 12-10.

Both Bentham and Rinehart had RBI singles while Kayla Mansfield hit a solo home run in a three-run sixth inning for the winners.

Bailey Raynor recorded three hits while Rachael Allen and Sara Burgin two hits with each having a double for Westfield.
