Roger Nelson, 75, of 265 Broadhead Ave., died unexpectedly on April 29, 2013, at Buffalo General Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was a lifelong city resident, born June 7, 1937, to Arvid and Elsie (Reed) Nelson. Following graduation from Jamestown High School in 1955, he attended Jamestown Community College.
For 30 years, Roger was a custodian at Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church. In retirement, he received recognition from RSVP for his many volunteer hours to the community including the Red Cross and M.J. Fletcher Elementary School. He will be remembered for his many years of service to the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive. Roger was a good friend to many, and helpful to elderly neighbors with leaf raking and snow removal over the years.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Larry Nelson. Survivors include his sister, Celeste Kerns of Westfield; and sister-in-law, Nancy Nelson of Frewsburg. Three nieces and a nephew also survive.
There will be a memorial gathering of family and friends at a later date.
