Sherman Rallies To Edge Ellicottville

SHERMAN – Sherman (2-2, 1-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and defeated Ellicottville, 5-4, for its first Division 4 baseball win of the season.

Jared Bates scored the tying run for the Wildcats and then Ethan Lyon, who had walked for the third time, scored the winning run on a double steal with two outs.

Sherman’s Jeremy Cole had a double and Bates had an RBI single.

Winning pitcher Ryan Robson worked the last four innings and fanned eight, walked four and gave up two hits.

For Ellicottville, Phalla Musall had triple while Robert Sawicki had three singles and scored twice.


BROCTON – Clymer took an early lead, but Brocton (4-2, 5-4) quickly regained it and rolled to a 6-3 victory over the Pirates (3-2).

With Clymer holding a 1-0 lead, Brocton responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame as Dan Ferguson had a two-run triple.

The Bulldogs took control in the second inning with one out as Scott Laurie singled, stole second and Dalton Remington singled to drive him in. Jordan Patterson then singled in Remington and Ferguson followed with another single. Lathan Dunn knocked in Patterson with the team’s fifth consecutive single and Tayler Appel’s sacrifice fly scored Ferguson to make the score 6-1.

Laurie pitched a complete game, collecting 12 strikeouts while giving up two walks and seven hits.

Austin Cramer went four innings for Clymer, striking out five with no walks and surrendered eight hits.

Also for the Pirates, Dan Wiggers had two hits and Andrew Heil also had two hits with one RBI.
