Armstrong Proves He’s Scholarship Material
Mark Armstrong of Clarence, who is headed to the University of Pittsburgh on a baseball scholarship, gave Jamestown a good indication why he is going to be a Panther.
Armstrong powered two home runs and a double to drive in seven runs as Clarence downed Jamestown (1-6, 2-9), 16-1, at the Martin Road Complex on Monday in ECIC Division 1 action.
Armstrong hit a three-run homer during a four-run first inning. Later, he hit a two-run homer and a two-run double off the left-field fence.
Evan Harof joined Armstrong with three hits off the 11 that the Red Raiders allowed.
The only Jamestown run came in the first when Bram Johnson doubled and Jake Sisson tripled.
Johnson later added another hit.
Mark Materise, the winning pitcher, Brock Curtis and Zach Darlak combined for a six-hitter with five strikeouts and a walk.
Materise went the first five innings and gave up four of the six hits.
