County Democrats To Delay Candidate Announcement
MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Democrats will delay announcing their candidate for Chautauqua County Executive.
An announcement was expected sometime this week but has been delayed after County Executive Greg Edwards’ unexpected announcement on Friday that he will not run for another term.
“In light of County Executive Greg Edwards’ announcement Friday that he not running for re-election, I have asked the Democratic candidate who was to announce a county executive run this week to delay the release and the candidate agreed,” said Norman P. Green, Chautauqua County Democratic Committee chairman, in a news release.
“Our process is open and transparent and my party committee members asked this week that we extend the search process for two weeks to avoid any criticism and listen to anyone else who might want to come forward. We want to avoid a primary and we want to hear from all prospective candidates so as to assure ourselves that we have the very best nominee.
“Also,” Green concluded, “Greg Edwards is a gentleman and someone I respect. He deserves to not to have his county government retirement announcement stepped on by me or the Democrats. I may not agree with his politics, but I admire this good family man and will miss working with him in Mayville.”
