Allen’s Performance On Hill Earns JCC Twin Bill Split

ALFRED – Jamestown Community College moved to 16-21 overall and 15-11 in NJCAA Region 3 Division III play after splitting a doubleheader with Alfred State on Saturday.

Rick Allen was once again dominant on the mound for the Jayhawks in their 7-1 opening-game victory. The right-hander hurled a complete-game shutout (his second of the season), surrendering just four hits and a walk while striking out five.

“Ricky dominated them,” JCC coach Dick Adams said. “He threw strike after strike after strike and was down around their knees the whole game.”

Fellow pitcher Thomas Hearst (eight strikeouts and no earned runs over seven innings) was equally impressive in the nightcap, but three errors and nine runners left on base doomed Jamestown to a 4-1 defeat.

In the opening contest the Jayhawks banged out 12 hits.

Kody Kondrilk went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two doubles; Connor Borowski had two hits, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning; Josh Allan added two hits, an RBI and a double; Christian VanNote had two hits; and Jose Hernandez recorded three hits in four at-bats.

In the evening game, Jamestown trailed by just one run, 2-1, but Alfred State, which had four unearned runs, put the game away with a two-run fifth to reach the winning margin.

“We stranded nine men on base, including six in scoring position,” Adams said. “We had our chances, we just couldn’t push anything across.”

Following the fifth inning, the Jayhawks would strand runners in both the sixth and seventh innings.

JCC’s lone run was plated by Hernandez, who scored from third on a sacrifice fly by teammate Gonzalez (1-for-3) in the fifth inning.

Borowski went 3-for-3 in defeat while VanNote had two hits and Allan one in as many at-bats.

Jamestown is right back in action today at Diethrick Park with its doubleheader with Alfred State beginning at 1 p.m.
