CRYB To Exhibit Ballet Costumes

The Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet will celebrate the beginning of National Dance Week with a two-week exhibit of its ballet costume collection from Saturday through May 12 at the Dykeman-Young Gallery on the second floor of 100 E. Second St., Jamestown.

The exhibit, titled “The Art of Costume,” is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 1-7 p.m.

The exhibit provides a rare look at the costume collection of the Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet featuring costumes and costume pieces from several ballets. The Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet has been presenting ballet productions in the community since 1995 and in addition to costumes from their annual Nutcracker, the exhibit will also include costumes from Paquita, La Bayadere, Swan Lake and Les Sylphides among others.

The exhibit at the Dykeman-Young Gallery provides an opportunity to view these costumes up close rather than from the normal distance one would view costumes when seeing them onstage. The attention to detail and exquisite handwork that goes into each of these pieces will be evident in the exhibit.

From 7-9 p.m. Friday, an opening reception will be held. Tickets to the opening reception which will include music and refreshments are $15 and available through the Reg Lenna Box Office by calling 484-7070.
