Swan Holds Pine Valley To Two Hits
BEMUS POINT – Both Pine Valley (2-2) and host Maple Grove were locked in a pitching dual all afternoon as both teams collectively produced five hits between them.
When it was all said and done, the Red Dragons (3-0, 3-5) came through when it counted to give Jake Swan a hard-fought 1-0 victory in Division 3 baseball.
Swan ended his day pitching a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
Equalling Swan’s performance for the Panthers was Tyler Swanson, who struck out 13 and walked only five, surrendering just three hits, which came off the bats of Lucas, Tanner and Swan.
The games was scoreless until Maple Grove came up in the bottom of the seventh. Nolan Knipe flew out to second and Jeff Tampe flew to left, but an error left him on second base. Cass Howard struck out for the second out and Jonah Tanner walked and Will Lucas hit a bloop single over the shortstop to bring home the winning run. Howard also had an outstanding day behind the plate.
Spencer Sticek and Swanson had Pine Valley’s hits in the losing effort.
ERRORS HURT PANAMA
PANAMA – Three errors in the eighth inning were costly for Panama.
Forestville (1-1, 1-5) didn’t have a hit but took advantage of three errors for two runs to grab a 6-4 victory over Panama (1-2, 2-3).
Panama was down by two runs in the last of the seventh inning when it struck with two outs to send the game into extra innings.
Sawyer Eggleston brought Panama within one run with a double and Kelvin Eddy drilled a tying double in the seventh.
Adam Pleva and Buck Smith lashed two hits for the winners.
Kyle McIntyre, Alec Blose had two hits and joined Eggleston with RBI doubles for Panama.
