Lewis E. “Lewie” Nickerson Sr.

SINCLAIRVILLE – Lewis E. “Lewie” Nickerson Sr., 67, of Sinclairville, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at WCA Hospital.

Born Sept. 24, 1945, in Westfield, the son of the late Edward and Evelyn Maring Nickerson.

He was a 1963 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School. A veteran of the Vietnam conflict, Lewie served with the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968.

He was a 33-year employee of the Chautauqua County Highway Department as an equipment operator, dispatcher and retired as a district supervisor in 2001.

Lewie served as town of Gerry councilman, was elected town of Charlotte highway superintendent in 2004 and served until retirement in 2012.

He coached baseball in the Gerry area, umpired baseball, including the 13-year old Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, softball and refereed football and wrestling.

He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Husband of Teri Olmstead Nickerson; father of Lewis (Lori) Jr., Joe (Nancy), Scott (Dorothy), Ed-ward and Wynter Nickerson; grandfather of Heather (Dan) Gould, Cassie, Rebekah, Kendra, Rachel, Elizabeth and the late Grace Nickerson; great-grandfather of Cameron Gould; brother of Ruthann (Pat) Heath, Clayt (Joanne), Clint, Lynn (Jeanne), Phil (Ann), Ron (Debbie), Lex, Cliff, Greg (Sue), Gary (Debbie) Nickerson and the late Rhonda Hawkins, Darwin and Paul Nickerson. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Park United Methodist Church, 49 Sinclair Drive, Sinclairville. Visitation 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Sinclairville.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the children’s college fund would be greatly appreciated.
