Hike Planned To Celebrate Earth Day

Chautauqua Rails to Trails and the Chautauqua County Hiking Club have joined forces to host a spring hike on Saturday. This hike celebrates Earth Day, which is April 22.

Hikers will gather at 9 a.m. at the Titus Road trailhead of the Rail-Trail and will hike north about 3 miles. The Titus Road trailhead is on the border of the towns of Sherman and Chautauqua. It is about one mile north of the village of Sherman. Cars will be prepositioned before the hike begins.

Jim Fincher, Rails-to-Trails Trail manager, will lead the hike and offer historical tidbits along the way and will offer hikers the chance to clamber down a fill and see a very old pass-through. Call Fincher at 665-3246 for details. The hike, except for the pass-through, will be easy, as it is on an old rail bed. The hike should conclude at noon.

The Chautauqua County Hiking Club was founded in 1974 by the late Herb Hern. It is an informal group of people who enjoy the outdoors.

All hikes are led by volunteer hike coordinators and are open to anyone at no charge who would enjoy participating.

The club offers a wide range of activities from hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The many outings include a variety of locations and different skill levels in order to offer something for everyone.

Details and times for all of the club outings will be displayed as they become available on the club’s Facebook page. Simply Google Chautauqua County Hiking Club.
