VILLENOVA – A Villenova man is facing animal cruelty and firearm possession charges after police said he shot one of his neighbor’s ducks.
Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies on Sunday responded around 6:30 p.m. to a report of a dispute between neighbors on Prospect Road. Upon arrival, deputies spoke to a farmer who said his neighbor, David M. O’Connor, 51, shot and killed one of his ducks.
The farmer, who raises and sells Muskovy ducks, told police he came home to find one of the ducks shot. The ducks are native to Mexico.
Police learned O’Connor used a .22 rifle long gun to shoot and kill the animal, knowing it belonged to his neighbor.
O’Connor was charged with prohibitions on the use and possession of firearms (500 feet of a residence) and overdriving, torturing and injuring animals. He is scheduled to appear in Villenova Court at a later date.
