Lady Red Dragons Overcome Early Deficit

Maple Grove started its season on a winning note, coming back from an early deficit to post a 6-3 victory over Panama (2-1, 0-1) in Division 3 softball on Monday.

The Lady Panthers held a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but the Lady Red Dragons (1-0) tied things up in the bottom of the frame, then broke the game open in bottom of the fifth with four runs as Lauren Nickerson led off with a single.

Five hits later, Taylor Satalino drove in a run on a squeeze bunt to score Nickerson, Paige Bentham singled in another run and Jordan Ahlstrom drilled a two-RBI double.

Mackenzie Ellis went the distance for Maple Grove, striking out nine with four walks and six hits. Nickerson ended her day with a double and two singles, Morgan Lehman added two hits and Jordan Ahlstrom doubled.

Carly Abbate took the loss for Panama with one strikeout while walking three and giving up nine hits. Jessica Leonard had a double and two singles and Kristen Green contributed two hits.
