Parent Network of WNY Schedules Workshops

The Parent Network of Western New York will hold several workshops in April. Families who have children and/or young adults with special needs are encouraged to attend. The workshops will provide useful information, tips and strategies. All workshops offered are free of charge for families of individuals with disabilities.

On Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. Transition for Families will be held at The Resource Center, 200 Dunham Ave., Jamestown. The goals of this training are to ensure that parents, family members and students can work with their CSE to assess their child’s strengths, interests and needs; establish measurable goals for life after high school’ and identify appropriate transition services and coordinated activities.

On Thursday, April 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Connections North, 10825 Bennett Road, Dunkirk, and on Saturday, April 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry St., Jamestown, NYS Parent Member Training will be held. This state Education Department training is intended to provide Parent Members who sit on the Committees on Preschool and School Age Special Education with an understanding of their role, requirements and the special education process. Participants will learn techniques and strategies to fulfill the Parent Member role in a meeting.

On April 22 from 6-8 p.m. What to do about Challenging Behaviors Strategies of Working with the School will be held at New Directions Youth & Family Services, 356 Main St., Randolph. The purpose of this workshop is to help parents recognize the early signs of conflict and implement strategies that can manage the conflict in a proactive way and prevent the conflict from turning into a full-blown storm.
