Salary Commission To Meet Today

MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Salary Review Commission will meet at 5:45 p.m. today in Room 331 of the Gerace Office Building, Mayville, to review and recommend the salaries of all elected officials except those whose salaries are established directly or indirectly by state law. The public is welcome to attend.

Ladies Bible Study Planned

The Levant Wesleyan Church, Route 394, between Falconer and Kennedy, will present a ladies’ Bible study at 9:30 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday beginning Tuesday. This 12-week DVD series, ”Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophesy,” is by Beth Moore. Story Hour Begins Friday

The Ahira Hall Memorial Library, Brocton, will host a pre-school story hour beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday with Mary Ellen Westin and Susan Raymond.

Sherman To Offer UPK Program

SHERMAN – Sherman Central School will be offering a Universal Pre-Kindergarten program for the 2013-14 school year. The program will provide age-appropriate, educational activities for 4-year-olds. All students need to reside in the Sherman School District and must turn 4 years old by Dec. 1, 2013, in order to qualify for the program. Proof of proper immunization and birth certificate are required. Applications have been mailed to families included on the school census. Those who have not received applications in the mail should call 761-6121 to request one.

VA Benefits

Talk Is Friday

Steve E. McCord, Cattaraugus County Veterans Services, or Kevin P. Haynes, service officer, will be available to discuss VA benefit laws, the VA healthcare system or any concerns and questions from 1-4 p.m. Friday and May 10 in The Pines, Machias and 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday and May 14 in the Franklinville Town Clerk’s Office. McCord is also available in the Little Valley County Office building from 1-3:30 p.m. on Thursdays. The Olean office hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday through Friday except on legal holidays. It is advisable to confirm the availability of staff at this office or the above locations; call 701-3298.

Ellery Seniors

To Meet Friday

Ellery Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. Friday in St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Helen Ingerson, Jan Anderson and Ola Olson are the committee. Twenty members and one guest attended a recent meeting. John and Betty Lou Cheney, Paul Samuelson and Marty Hunt were the committee. Gene Norris gave table grace and led devotions. Peter Carlo led the flag salute. John Crossley, Chautauqua County Amateur Radio Club president, spoke on the equipment used for disasters and how they can talk worldwide to other radio clubs and members. Celebrating birthdays were Paul Samuelson, Lois Norris, Marlene Walrod, Jean Telschow and Mary Ann Carlo. Ms. Cheney closed the meeting with prayer.
