Mavis A. Covey, 83, formerly of Scott Hill Road, Kennedy, passed away Monday (April 8, 2013), in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
A lifelong area resident, she was born Oct. 21, 1929, in Frewsburg, the daughter of the late Clyde L. and Edith Hamilton Sisson.
Mavis attended Frewsburg High School, and along with her husband operated a dairy farm on Scott Hill Road for many years.
She was a member of the Ivory Baptist Church, Po-land Senior Citizens and had volunteered for St. Susan’s Kitchen. Mavis enjoyed embroidering, draw-ing, writing poetry and animals.
Surviving is a son, Patrick (Lisa) Covey of Lake-wood; five daughters: Patricia Luce, Lottie (Mitchell) Abers and Marjorie (Lewis) Thompson, all of Kennedy, Julia Covey of Randolph, and Christine Benson of Longview, Texas; seven grandchildren: Tricia (George) Clare and Jason Luce, all of Kennedy, Leslie (Theodore) Brown of Ripley, Nathan (Martha) Abers of Jamestown, Lindsey (Matthew) Eggles-ton of Westfield, Michael Benson of Longview, Texas, and Christopher (Sarah) Benson of Dumas, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Freeman of Frewsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon H. Covey, whom she mar-ried Dec. 24, 1945, in Falconer, and who died May 18, 1986; a granddaughter, Sarah Benson; a great-grandson Liam Abers; three brothers: Frank, Donald and Maurice Sisson; and two sisters: Olita Rowley and Joyce Price.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald Haglund, chaplain of Heritage Group, will officiate. Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery, Clarks Corners.
Friends will be received by the family from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the funeral service Friday in the funeral home.
