Abbate Paces Panama Softball Victory With Her Bat, Arm
PANAMA- Panama opened its season on a winning note, thanks to some solid pitching by Carly Abbate, who led the Lady Panthers (1-0) to a convincing 27-5 victory over Sherman in non-league softball on Monday.
Abbate went the distance, striking out six while walking four, while pitching a five hitter.
Abbate also helped her own cause with two hits, including a triple with two RBIs.
Brittany Lenart slammed a home run with two singles and one RBI, Sarah Osborne had three hits, Jessica Lenart added two singles along with four walks, Kirsten Green drilled a double and a single, Taylor Bowen had a triple and a single, Natalie Torres had two hits and Hannah King doubles and came up with three RBIs.
For the Lady Wildcats (0-1), Sam Delcamp took the loss on the mound, but contributed two hits with two RBIs.
RIPLEY TOPS WESTFIELD
RIPLEY – Ripley roared out of the gate quickly in picking up its first victory of the season as the Lady Eagles cruised to a 14-7 win over Westfield.
A combination of timely hits and fielding miscues allows 11 runs to cross the plate for Ripley in the first inning, highlighted by Emilee Steger, who singled two runs in.
Overall, Sam Trevelline was the top hitter for the Lady Eagles (1-0), delivering four hits with two RBIs. In total, Ripley racked up nine hits. Steger was also the winning pitcher, going all seven innings while striking out seven and walking one.
For the Lady Wolverines, Laura Tofil got the loss, going six innings with four strikeouts and five walks.
Rachel Allen led Westfield with three hits and three RBIs, Hillary Nelson added two hits and an RBI and Katheyn Catalano connected for two hits.
