CLCS Celebrates Dr. Seuss
Melissa Bartok, Mayville Library director, is pictured reading to kindergartners at Chautauqua Lake Central School as part of the district’s Read Across America Day celebration. She gave each student a bookmark to take home and told about the library’s story times for preschool and elementary aged children at 4:30 p.m. each Thursday. She also invited the children to view movies at the library each Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. Bartok was just one guest reader in the elementary grades. Retired music teacher Rick Lundquist made a guest appearance as “The Cat in the Hat” and read to all students from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 2 and their age mates in BOCES classes at CLCS, and volunteer readers from the National Honor Society, community members, and other teachers visited individual classrooms, grades 3-6, as well as BOCES classes of older students, to read favorite stories. Read Across America Day, sponsored by the National Education Association, is held annually on or near the March 2 birthday of author Dr. Seuss.
