When customers purchase any of three Panasonic models of vacuum cleaner from Falconer Vac Shoppe, the business will be helping local senior citizens receive home-delivered meals from Meals on Wheels.
Falconer Vac Shoppe, located at 15 W. Main St., Falconer, will donate $10 for every Panasonic model UG223, UG323 or UG327 it sells until May 31. The promotion began in early March, and has already sold nine vacuum cleaners, said Brian Nelson, owner of Falconer Vac Shoppe.
This is the second year Falconer Vac Shoppe has run this promotion. Last year, the business raised $240 for Meals on Wheels in a similar promotion.
“I’m excited about participating in this program, and happy to help Meals on Wheels,” Nelson said. “Hopefully we can see some good results to make sure we can continue to feed our area’s senior citizens.”
Barrie Yochim, executive director for Meals on Wheels, said, “We appreciate that Brian and Falconer Vac Shoppe have chosen to run this promotion for us for a second time. We’re optimistic that this will be successful for both the shop and Meals on Wheels. Money raised from this will help Meals on Wheels get food in the hands of local senior citizens who need home-delivered meals.”
Nancy Lahnen, president of the Meals on Wheels volunteer board of directors, helped initiate the promotion last year.
“Once again, Brian is offering to hold another promotion to raise funds for meal delivery to clients in our community,” she said. “Thank you, Brian, for helping Meals on Wheels,” she said. “We sincerely appreciate your support in making sure the seniors and homebound are receiving nutritious meals.”
Many individuals in Chautauqua County can’t pay for meal delivery, and the organization relies on donations like this to help pay for food delivery to area senior citizens, Yochim said. Meals on Wheels also receives funding from United Way of Southern Chautauqua County and Chautauqua County Office For the Aging, as well as other individual contributors.
Any Chautauqua County senior citizen can receive home meal delivery. Meals on Wheels of the Jamestown Area delivers to the southern half of Chautauqua County. Sinclairville 76ers provides home-delivered meals to participants in the towns of Charlotte, Cherry Creek, Gerry and Ellington, as well as the areas of Cassadaga, Stockton and Lily Dale. Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels provides home-delivered meals to participants along the Lake Erie lakeshore from Brocton to Silver Creek, and the village of Forestville.
