AARP Board To Meet Thursday

The Jamestown AARP board of directors will meet Thursday in the parlors of First Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. The general meeting will be a free guided tour of the Jamestown train depot, conducted by Lee Harkness, manager, on Tuesday, April 9, at 1:30 p.m. Since free parking is limited, attendees should bring change for parking meters. There will also be a brief business meeting and refreshments. This meeting is open to the community.

Contra Dance To Be Held Friday

FREDONIA – The Fredonia Grange, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia, will host a first Friday community contra dance at 8 p.m. on April 5. The cost is $6 per person. Live music will be provided by Resistance Is Futile, an Irish band from Buffalo, featuring Anne Maroney, Werner Ceusters, Natalie Bennett and Mark Warford. All dances will be taught and called. Strides Offering Free SAT Prep

Chautauqua Striders is offering free SAT prep classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. beginning April 8. The classes are in preparation for the May 4 exam and will take place at the Striders office on the second floor of the Jamestown YMCA. To register, call 488-2203 or email

Jamestown BOE To Meet April 8

The Jamestown Board of Education will meet on Monday, April 8, at 6 p.m. and go into Executive Session for “matters pertaining to the employment of a particular person.” The board will return to regular session to adjourn the meeting.

Cemetery To Begin Cleanup

The Lake View Cemetery will begin its annual spring cleanup on Monday, April 8. Any decorations not removed by that date will be disposed of by cemetery personnel. The cemetery will also begin locking its gates at 8:30 p.m. on that date.

County Planning Board To Meet

Ballroom Dance Sessions Set

The next session of Ballroom Dance is scheduled to begin April 11 at the Jamestown YMCA. Classes will meet on Thursdays from 7-8 p.m. for eight weeks. This session will be geared for intermediate-level dancers and will follow the silver syllabus. More advanced figure patterns and amalgamations will be added as the students’ abilities progress. Loose, comfortable clothing and smooth-soled shoes are recommended attire for ballroom dance. Partners are not mandatory. Space is limited, and advance registration is required by April 9.
