Give It Your Best Shot
This white robin was photographed on Spooner Road in Ashville by Ruth Stearns. The strange coloration of the bird is likely due to albinism, a genetic defect that occurs in all kinds of animals and causes a lack of pigment. According to Mark Baldwin of the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans has a section devoted to albino animals that people have donated to the zoo.
