Students Receive Scholarships

ALFRED – Two Chautauqua County residents have each been awarded scholarships to attend Alfred State.

Ian Guarino of Bemus Point was awarded $6,600 a year for the Presidential Scholarship. Guarino is slated to graduate in 2013 from Maple Grove Junior-Senior High School and intends to enroll in the veterinary technology program.

Robert Stearns of Frewsburg was awarded $4,500 per year for an All-American Scholarship. Stearns is slated to graduate in 2013 from Frewsburg Central School and intends to enroll in the electrical construction and maintenance electrician program.

The Presidential Scholarship, which provides a free, double occupancy room, is awarded to students who possess a 90 or better high school average through their junior year and who have achieved a minimum SAT score of 1150 or a composite ACT score of 25. Recipients must maintain a required grade point average to continue to receive free room in subsequent semesters.

The All-American Scholarship provides free board and is awarded to students who possess an 88 or better high school average through their junior year and who have achieved at least a 1100 combined SAT score or a composite ACT score of 24.

Recipients must maintain a required grade point average to continue to receive free board in subsequent semesters.
