Robbery Thwarted

FALCONER – A Jamestown man has been taken to the Chautauqua County Jail after demanding a store pharmacist give him several narcotic medications.

James M. Hayes, 22, of 115 Wilson Place, Jamestown, was charged with third-degree robbery and petit larceny late Thursday. According to a police report, Ellicott police were dispatched to the Tops store on South Work Street, Falconer after a robbery in progress was reported. Officers found the robber had been caught by a store employee and a customer in the store parking lot.

Hayes allegedly went into the store’s pharmacy and handed the clerk a note demanding several narcotic medications. Initial reports via police scanner mentioned the note as stating Hayes was armed with a gun. The clerk complied with Hayes’ demands. When Hayes left the store, the clerk told another store employee before Hayes could get away.

Hayes was arraigned in Poland Town Court and taken to the Chautauqua County Jail. He will be in court later.
