Dragons End Trip With 8-0 Setback
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Southpaw Michael Taylor scattered three hits and fanned 11 over seven innings to lead Osbourne, Va., past Maple Grove, 8-0, in the Mingo Bay Classic on Thursday.
The Red Dragons (0-4) threatened in the first inning as Jonah Tanner and Jake Swan each singled before Aaron Germain walked to load the bases, but Taylor buckled down from there and struck out the side to end the threat.
Maple Grove’s only other hit, a single by Cass Howard, came in the fifth inning.
Despite their difficulties in solving Taylor, Red Dragons’ starter Jake Swan kept the game scoreless until the fourth inning, when Osbourne drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the first run.
The squad from Virginia then opened things up in the sixth with three runs to make it 4-0 before scoring four more in the seventh to reach the winning margin.
Swan took the loss after going six innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Maple Grove is now on the road back to Western New York and won’t be in action again until April 8 when it hosts Cassadaga Valley at 4:30 p.m.
