Red Dragons Can’t Hold Late Lead, Suffer 7-3 Loss

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – A late-inning rally prevented Maple Grove from earning its first victory in the Mingo Bay Tournament on Wednesday.

The Red Dragons (0-2) was leading Williamsport (2-1) by a 3-2 count entering the top of the seventh inning when the Millionares scored five times to pull out a 7-3 win.

In the sixth inning, Maple Grove had taken a 3-2 lead with Aaron Germain singling home two runs and another run scored on an error.

Then in the seventh, Williamsport tallied five times, highlighted by a two-run single by Benny Myers, a sacrifice fly by Isaal Foust and a single by Ian Ditmore.

Collin Stack was impressive in defeat as he worked 6 innings and gave up six hits, struck out five and walked three. Jonah Tanner finished up for Maple Grove.

Steve Moon led Williamsport with three hits while Maple Grove had singles by Germain, Tanner, Stack and Josh Ahlstrom.

The Red Dragons play Osbourne (0-2), Va., at 10 a.m. today and will play either at 4:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. depending on how they do in the first game.
