Campion Voted ECIC?Division 1 Co-Player Of Year; Drake Is COY

Tommy Campion and Ben Drake headline five members of the Jamestown Red Raiders boys basketball program who have been honored by the Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 coaches.

Campion, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, shares player-of-the-year honors with Williamsville North junior Sterling Taplin after leading the Red Raiders (19-3) to their third Section 6 Class AA championship in four seasons, while Drake was named the league’s coach of the year.

Campion averaged 21.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists; connected on 68 3-pointers; and ended his career with 1,145 points, which is good for No. 5 on the school’s all-time list. Drake, meanwhile, captured his fourth career sectional crown and his ninth divisional title in 15 years at his alma mater.

Joining Campion on the first team are teammates Branden Kellam and Quinn Lee Yaw. Kellam, a 6-5 sophomore, averaged 11.4 points and 9.8 rebounds, while Lee Yaw, a 6-5 junior, averaged 9.4 ponts and 7.8 rebounds.

Zack Panebianco is a second-team choice after averaging 10.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists. The 5-9 sophomore guard was especially strong in the postseason, highlighted by a 26-point, 10-rebound, six-assist effort against Clarence in the sectional semifinals.

Other first-team members are junior guards Ryan Funk and Bryan Jost of Clarence and senior guard David Berkun of Williamsville North.

The remaining second-team selections are senior guard Bobby Florio and sophomore forward Tanner Schmidt of Clarence; senior guard Kevin Marcinkowski of Frontier and senior forward Matt Marcinkowski of Frontier.

Honorable-mention choices are David Rajski of Frontier, Sean Murray and Mac Garby of Lancaster, Nick Clancy of West Seneca West and Emaure Williams of Clarence.
