Joan F. Gunnell

Joan F. Gunnell, 73, of Ross Mills Road, Falconer passed away Monday (March 18, 2013) in her home surrounded by her family.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Aug. 10, 1939, in Jamestown the daughter of the late Earl and Gertrude Sampson Weber.

Joan was a graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School and in earlier years was employed at National Worsted Mills, PeJo’s Restaurant, DeBell Vending, Hotel Sinclairville, and later at Heritage Village Health Care Center.

Joan will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and for “always putting others first.” She enjoyed spending time with her family, while her home was always open to anyone. She absolutely loved working in her flower gardens, cooking, baking and knitting for others, even making helmet liners for soldiers overseas. Her thoughtfulness impacted everyone she knew, even if it was by sending a birthday card, or leaving a homemade loaf of bread on your doorstep to brighten your day.

She was an active member of the Foster Parent Club and for many years with her husband had taken in several foster children. Joan had been active in various bowling leagues within the area in years past.

Surviving is her husband Robert G. Gunnell, whom she married Nov. 30, 1957, in the Gerry Methodist Church; three sons: Ronnie L. (Vickie) Gunnell of Gerry, Robert L. (Cheryl) Gunnell of Falconer, Timothy G. (Kris) Gunnell of South Carolina, her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Gunnell Carlson of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren: Kassandra Gunnell, Stacie Gunnell, Randy Gunnell, Brian Gunnell, Cherise Gunnell, Shannon Gunnell, Bradley Gunnell, Ashley Gunnell, Alexis Gunnell and Ryan Gunnell; six great-grandchildren: Kyla and Katelyn Gunnell, Kaylee and Kara Paddock, and Aleena and Kaden Swanson.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey A. Gunnell, who died Sept. 29, 2011, and a brother, Bruce Weber who died Nov. 14, 1973.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Al Meyers will officiate. Burial will be in Gerry Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday in the funeral home.
